8.5” x 11” | Saddle-stich binding | 12 pages | | Laser on 80lb Gloss Text An incomplete list of lost and stolen artworks. These works were either plundered by authoritative regimes or stolen by skilled thieves. None of these works have ever been retrieved or returned to their rightful owners. This interactive publication illustrates how these beautiful works have now become inaccessible to the public. By taking the perforated pieces, readers can “own” the work for themselves, leaving behind cryptic and imperceptible remains as if picked apart from dry bones. The typography gradually degenerates as the reader turns the page until it is completely illegible. Graphic design doesn’t exist on its own. Some form of content or information is necessary to design. I asked: “What would it look like if I made a publication without content?” “How do I communicate absence or obscurity?” For the stock, I selected a gloss text format in saddle-stich binding to resemble a pamphlet or catalog a visitor would receive at a museum or art gallery.
